A very interesting idea… I wonder how scientifically sound this all is because I recall research that suggests SSRIs don’t necessarily work by simply upping your serotonin levels, but by stimulating neurogenesis in the brain. If anything, I don’t believe mental illnesses are simply a matter of too much or too little of one or two substances.
Besides, if you feel awful, you feel awful, no matter what a test says. I think that if we were to adopt this testing, there’s a danger here of dismissing people with real suffering if their test results don’t align with their perceived sense of suffering. We should take suffering seriously, no matter what a lab test says.
