A well-written article with some very strong points. I must say that I remain a fan of Awkwafina — there are simply too few celebrities that look like me and have a background similar to mine—and I love her personality, but I do agree that some aspects of her performance are problematic.

I think the takeaway here is that we Asian-Americans/Canadians have the responsibility to remember that we too hold unique privileges that other folks don’t have. We have the privilege of having light skin or being perceived as non-threatening, for example, and it’s important to keep these privileges in mind when we succeed in something.
