Awesome primer. May I add that in many other places in the world, the lighter-is-better narrative can be quite pervasive even when there are no White people in the mix. In China, for example, there has been a recent spate of anti-Black racism where African migrants/travellers/visitors have been kicked out of their homes. As a person of Chinese heritage, I feel it is my responsibility to acknowledge this, that White people aren’t the only ones capable of being racist. Of course, the context of racism varies from society to society, but I do feel in many human societies there is a propensity to favour light skin over dark skin.
