I learned a lot from this one. As a visible minority myself, I get what you mean when there are racist things you just kinda take for granted because it's always been like that...it's only recently that I've looked back on some things and then thought, "Oh shit, that was totally racist."

Weirdly, I've also learned from the dominant group (like your mainland friend; White people for me in Canada) that some things were racist!
