I wrestle a lot with “ethical eating.” I am not wealthy by any definition, but I am wealthier than a lot of people, so I could technically put more effort into it and become vegetarian or vegan. But I also have iron deficiency and was told by my doctor to please eat some red meat. And I am also Chinese, where meat is a big part of my traditional diet, and my family finds it strange if I choose not to eat it.

What I’ve decided to do is simply eat LESS meat, but not totally eradicate it from my diet. I have also found that eating chicken—at least in my jurisdiction—is probably the most ethical and sustainable form of meat I can eat. Poultry is by law free-run where I live, and chickens take up less resources, space, and money to raise and slaughter. Chicken is also healthier than red meat, and personally, I would be more capable of killing a chicken than killing a cow if someone were to hand me a knife. Just my two cents!
