Interesting topic. I've actually found the opposite to be true: the wilder and more confident you are about stating your opinion, the more attention you'll get. Of course, it won't all be GOOD attention, but on social media platforms at least, the folks with the distinct voices and strong controversial opinions get the most followers. But more mild-mannered stuff is favoured on Medium, so I guess YMMV depending on where you choose to stand with a megaphone :)
