It’s awesome that you’re writing about this. There is definitely a lot of anti-Black racism in Asian countries. It brings me a lot of discomfort and shame as a Chinese-Canadian, especially after the outpouring of support from other people of colour when East Asians around the world started suffering lots of coronavirus-related racism. I struggle with how we can fix this, because people in Asian countries have a completely different frame of reference and worldview than a less homogenous Western country (like Canada or the U.S.). And I do think it starts with media. It’s a good thing we are exporting more diverse pop culture and media now, so that people all over the world can understand the many varied nuances of who is an “American” or a “Canadian” or whatever.
