I've never camped outside the country but here in Canada outdoorsiness is a pretty popular national pasttime. Almost every summer (not sure if we can do it this summer due to Covid) my best friend from high school and I go to Lake Garibaldi. It's considered "backcountry" but it does have outhouses and a few designated tent pads. Complete wilderness though, and I always love it, not having a WiFi connection and all.
I grew up enrolling in leadership programs just to camp, haha. My parents are immigrants and city people and never quite saw the point, but I was seduced by the isolation and the nature from a young age. I consider it an enormous privilege to be able to access so much green space in Canada. My parents did not have this privilege.
