Love this story and thank you so much for sharing. I was raised Catholic and for many years struggled with reconciling what I believed was the truth faith with the horrible history of oppression Catholicism and Christianity have caused. I don't blame people who choose to believe in Christianity, but personally, at some point, I decided enough was enough and I couldn't align with this belief system anymore, one that has caused so much grief in the world in the name of "good." So I left the Church.

I'm not a particularly spiritual person, but if there really is something out there like God, I don't believe for one second that there is only one "right" way to live the righteous path. All religions have equal validity, and you are absolutely correct -- African religions have as much merit as other religions. It's only fair for us to take these religions seriously if we are all asked to take Christianity seriously. I'm grateful I went to school in a progressive environment where I learned about Buddhism and Hinduism and other non-White religions as much as White religions, but sadly learned little about African religions. Time to learn now!
