Some people like to stay in a safe, protected bubble where bad things don't happen, they happen elsewhere. Disease happens "elsewhere." War happens "elsewhere." It's terrible they're happening there, but since that's there and not here, I don't have to worry about it and it's none of my concern.
I think some white people react defensively because when you bring up race, it's like "oh, here we go again." Kinda like a "is this really that important that we have to talk about it all the time?" reaction.
Well, I'm glad you have the privilege of not being on the receiving end of racism. I'm glad your race doesn't follow you everywhere you go. I'm glad you can choose when and where and how to think about your race. People of colour, especially Black people, don't have this luxury.
