That's fair, and I envy you! Perhaps I should have clarified in my piece that this really depends on what field you're in, your age group, your geographical area, etc. For writers, social media has become almost a requirement because many of us operate like one-person small businesses, and the only way to communicate with other one-person small businesses is through the internet and in social media communities. Writers also have to "build a following" and there's no better place to do that than online. Otherwise, I'm not even sure how I would...set up a booth on the street? I dunno, haha.

As for social media being vapid, yeah, I totally get that, which is why I find it helpful to spend some extra time 'curating your algorithm' to things you find interesting. I've found Twitter much easier to bear when I do that.
