This is interesting. As a queer, gender non-conforming and female-bodied person of colour, I must say that having financial privilege has insulated me from a lot of harm. Thanks to my parents being middle-class professionals, I accessed quality education, lived in a good neighbourhood, and mingled with people (White and POC alike) who were well-educated enough to not be racist against me.
Of course, mine is an anecdotal experience and I live in Canada, not the U.S., so there may be some differences there. But I thought I'd just point out that class privilege has definitely afforded me luxuries.
Although I can also imagine that, were I to venture in a more prejudiced and backwards area with a group of White friends, I'd likely be treated worse. Race is also simply more difficult to hide. I'd stick out and be subjected to stereotyping no matter how many hundred dollar bills I have in my wallet or PhDs after my name. Good piece and food for thought, thanks for writing!
